The first small hydroelectric power station is being built in Malibey village of Lachin district in cooperation with the private sector.
The groundbreaking ceremony of the “Malibey” small hydroelectric power station was held within the framework of the project to operate 5 small hydroelectric power stations in Kalbajar and Lachin districts.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Economy Anar Akhundov, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Lachin district Masim Mammadov, Executive Director of “Azerbaijan Investment Company” OJSC Ulvi Mansurov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Demirören Yatırım Holding A.Ş.” Group of Companies Yıldırım Demirören, Head of “Arges Energy Team” LLC Mehmet Fehmi Özata and representatives of relevant structures of the Ministry of Economy.
It was noted that under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the transformation of the liberated territories into alternative and “green” energy zones is being successfully ensured. In order to improve the infrastructure provision in the region, an electricity supply system that meets modern requirements is being formed. Hydroelectric power stations play an important role in the “green” energy supply. The high hydro potential of the rivers in our liberated territories increases the efficiency of projects in this area. Cooperation with private investors in this direction is important.
It was emphasized that the project for the operation of small hydroelectric power stations in Kalbajar and Lachin is another indicator of Azerbaijani-Turkish brotherhood. This is the first hydroelectric power station project implemented jointly with the private sector in our liberated territories. The commissioning of the “Malıbey” station, the foundation of which was laid under the first stage of the project, will provide approximately 7 thousand homes with electricity per year.
Based on the Joint Venture Agreement signed in December last year between “Azerbaijan Investment Company” OJSC, Turkish “Demirören Yatırım Holding A.Ş.” Group of Companies and “Arges Enerji Team” LLC, 5 small hydroelectric power stations will be commissioned on the Hakari and Tartar rivers. The total cost of the project is 25 million manats. It is planned to fully commission 5 stations with a total capacity of 13.8 MW in 2025. The operational life of the stations is 30 years. The implementation of the project will allow the creation of 25 new jobs.
Within the framework of the project, it is planned to construct the following small hydroelectric power stations: “Malıbey” - 5.1 MW, the foundation of which was laid today on the Zabukh River passing through the Lachin region, “Galacha 2” - 3.4 MW, “Minkend” - 1.8 MW, “Galacha 1” - 1.1 MW, and “Tartar 1” - 2.4 MW on the Tartar River passing through the Kalbajar region, in the third stage.
